This myth explains why winter happens, why no crops grow, and why it's so cold.
The Story of Persphone and Hades Storyboard By Sophia Krehan
It was a beautiful day, with Demeter and Persephone in the fields, farming. Demeter was the god of farming, and Persephone, being her daughter often tagged along, and enjoyed tending to the wheat and the pomagrantes.
You've grown so much, Persephone.
Wah, wah, wah. I'm Persephone. I like to cry. Wah, wah, wah. Come on! You know you love it here!
Suddenly, Hades, ruler of the underworld, came up from his home, grabbing Persephone and taking him with her into the depths of the darkness below. Persephone yelled out and Hades kicked her as the ground above them sealed up.
I miss my mom! I wanna go home!
Persephone ate three pomegranate seeds, just to try and make herself feel better. Suddenly, Demeter burst through and grabbed Persephone's hand. "Come on! Quickly!" she yelled, yanking Persephone by the wrist. Hades appeared behind Persephone and said smoothly, "Ah, why, hello there, Demeter." "I've come to take my daughter back!" Demeter said, stomping her foot.
Hello, hello, hello.
still crying like the baby she is
Zeus came and decided it was best for Persephone to stay with Demeter, as she was her daughter. Persephone leaned over and told Zeus about the pomegranate seeds, knowing that if she ate food in the underworld she would have to stay there. and he decided that she would stay in the underworld for three months, because when you eat food there, you're supposed to stay, but Zeus thought it would be nice to let her stay there.
My baby.. eating some gross man's pomegranate.. i want Zeus to yeet him out of this world
In the spring, Demeter was happy to see her daughter again, and the crops would be planted and grow well.
In the fall, the crops would be harvested and would start to die as Demeter prepared as Persephone would be leaving soon.
In the summer, Demeter would enjoy her time with Persephone, and the crops would grow with sunshine.
In the winter, the crops would die, due to Persephone being gone, and Demeter´s grievance.
