  • The author of "The Raven" creates suspense through pacing by describing a continual tapping on his door and the raven outside continually saying "nevermore. 
  • In "The Black Cat", the author uses dangerous action to show suspense by describing the narrator cutting out the cat's eye.
  • The author of "The Tell-Tale Heart" shows suspense by describing the narrator killing the old man he lives with because the narrator claims the old man has an evil eye.
