The story Rikki-tikki-tavi starts when a surge of rain carries Rikki-tikki-tavi, a mongoose, out of his borrow to Teddy's bungalow. Then, Teddy and his father take the mongoose inide to dry him off and decide to keep him.
The inciding incident is when Rikki-tikki-tavi is talking to Darzee, a tailorbird, and his wife and he finds out about Nag and Nagina, the garden snakes. Then, Nag and Nagina sneakly attack Rikki, but he survives.
