  • Hello, I'm Sarah welcome to the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau. This was a challenging place to live. That is because of the thin dry air. Also, with an elevation of 13,500 feet it is chilly. Brr! Two of China's major rivers flow through this area.

  • Now I am in the Taklimakan Desert. It is considered one of the most dangerous deserts in the world. With an area of 105,000 square feet it is super hot. This desert is too dry to grow any vegetation except among rivers. Some say cities are buried within sand dunes.
  • Now I'm in the Gobi Desert and as you can see the majority of the desert is stones and pebbles. The temperatures here vary. Vegetation is scarce here. The Gobi desert is one of the world's largest deserts with an area of 500,000 square miles.

  • The Northeastern Plain is my next stop. Here, it  is an area of short warm summers and cold dry winters. Two major rivers run through this plain are the Liao and the Sungari. These rivers are used a s roads in the winter. Several groups of invaders used this plain as a route to Inner China. I think I see some, do you?
  • We made it to the North China Plain just in time for the sunset. The temperatures are warm in the summer and quite cold in the winter. You can see it has a river which is very muddy and floods a lot. This is mostly flat. But, you may not see, the ground is yellow because of the yellow limestone silt.

  • Our last stop of the tour is the Chang Jiang Basins. These Basins are areas of low wet coastal plains. The climate here is warm and wet. People say in ancient times the vegetation may have been thick rain forests. Now, there isn't much space for farming, but space for growing rice as you can see.
