  • Jackie Robinson (1947) Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player. He had to overcome name calling. Also, he broke the color barrier.
  • Brown v. Board of education (1954)  Public schools were segregated. colored children were separated from non- colored children. Also, African American kids did not get the same fair education as the white kids.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955)  On Dec. 1st, 1955 Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat on a bus. African Americans boycotted the bus system for a year. Also, African American cab drivers had to secretly help out others so they could get to work.
  • March on Washington (1963) The March on Washington occurred august 1963. It was intended to get the government to pass new civil rights laws. Also, MLK delivered his 'I Have A Dream' speech 
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964 The civil rights act of 1964 made segregation illegal in most public accommodations. Expanded protection against discrimination. People;le couldn't discriminate people because of their race, gender, religion, nor national origin.
  • Poor People Campaign (1968) This campaign was made to help laws be made to help people were very poor. They wanted better living conditions. Also, wanted better economic conditions.
