Storyboard Text

  • Fredonian Rebellion- Was the first attempt by Anglo settlers in Texas to secede from Mexico. They were led by Haden and Benjamin Edwards and created the Republic of Fredonia near Nacogdoches.
  • Stephen F. Austin was Arrested- It was believed that he was pushing for Texas to be independent. He was arrested in Jan. 1834 but not charged
  • Mier y Teran report- The population in Texas was growing. As a response the Mexican goverment decided to send someone to investigate. They sent Mier y teran. He sent a report back to mexico and said they were outnumbered 10-1
  • The Alamo- The battle was fought over issues like federalism, slavery, immigration rights, the cotton industry, and money. Santa Anna led Mexico. William Travis and James Bowie led Texas at the Alamo.
  • Goliad Massacre- Sam Houston didn't want a repeat of the Alamo, so he ordered James Fannin to retreat east; away from the Mexicans were closing in.
  • Battle of San Jancito- Sam Houston and the Texans wanted revenge for what happened at goliad. Santa Anna was not going to back down from the fight. The Texans had no mercy and took Santa Anna and made him sign off to give Texas its independence. If Santa Anna refused the Texans would kill him
