Young David was a sheep herder. Over many years he fought of wild animals so that his herd of sheep were protected.
A wise man was told by God to choose one of Jesse's sons to become the future king of Israel. The wise man rejected all ten of David's older brothers. However when David arrived the old man chose him as the future king.
Three of David's brothers were in the Israeli army. He was told by his dad Jesse to deliver food and supplies. It was only then that David found out about Goliath. He was furious that no one had stood up to him.
David visited King Saul and told him that he wanted to fight Goliath. King Saul thought that it was impossible for a little boy like David to win against a warrior like Goliath. But when David told the king that god was going to help him, he let him go.
Goliath thought there was no way a little boy like David could defeat him. When Goliath started walking towards David the young boy had already started swinging his sling. The rock from the sling hit Goliath in the head knocking him out.
David picked up Goliath's sword and with all of his strength brought it down on Goliath's neck. Loosing their champion the Philistine army retreats. David had freed Israel from Goliath.
