Lyons-"Let me have that ten dollars. I'll give it back to you." Troy-"The only time I see this nigger is when he wants something."
Strike 1: Crushed dreams
Cory-" The Recruiter is coming from North Carolina you can't not sign." Troy-"I don't care where he coming from. The white man ain't gonna let you get nowhere with that football noway."
No Love for his son
Cory- How come you never liked me? Troy- What law is there that says I got to like you?
Father & son - It shows that Troy cares very little about his sons and that he has to argue with him just for ten dollars that he's gonna be paid back for anyways.
Rose - Troy your hurting me. Troy - Don't you tell me about no taking and giving. Cory - Mama!
Father & son - Despite Troy seeing his sons passion for football instead of supporting his sons dreams and passions he insists on making Cory quite and for him to forget his dreams of football.
Strike 3 get out
Troy - Go on and get away from around my house. Cory - Tell Mama I'll be back for my things. Troy - They'll be on the other side of that fence.
When Cory came back from the marines he got to meet Raynell. Reynell asked about Papa's dog who's name was Blue. Cory then started singing the song with Reynell and even after all of that hate Cory built up against his father he ended up forgiving him.
Father & son - This just shows how little Troy cares for his sons despite them being kind and reasonable.
Father & son - Troy is pushed off balance after grabbing Rose and hurting her by an enraged Cory causing strike two. This shows that Troy is an abusive father not physically but emotionally, mentally, and even physiological. Troy may want best for his son but he is turning him to do harm with pent up aggression.
Father and son - Cory is kicked out of the house by Troy after a fight between the two of them. Cory was never going to make it in the house Troy was sitting out there drunk to look for a reason to kick him out. In this case it was for not saying excuse me to pass Troy.
Father & son - No matter how bad or awful the father, the son will always learn and pick up similar habits as the father and will even walk the same path as the father before.
