So if that was the Declaration, then what was the Articles of Confederation
Carter, do you know how the constitution and government came to be in the United States?
The first thing was the Declaration of Independence which was published on July 4th, 1776, which meant the US had declared their freedom from Britain
Articles of Confederation was the very first constitution. With the Articles it helped the United States to stay independent
So what followed after the A.O.C?
They had to decide where the power of the states would be, which made the New Jersey Plan and Virginia Plan. This convention suggested a bicameral legislature that would give representation in both houses.
The Constitutional Convention came after the A.O.C. This helped with the production of the Constitution and proved the A.O.C weren't working.
The Great Compromise made so that the Senate has equal representation between each state and the H.o.R would be determined by the state's population which was elected by the people. The 3/5 compromise made it so slaves could be counted as 3/5 of a person
What were the compromises about?
The next thing to become established was Check and Balances which helped so that the branches couldn't have too much power and each branch had its own job.
