richard is preparing for the first crusade of England. the crusades were wars with the Muslims for control of Jerusalem which both the Catholic church(England) and the Islamic church both thought was their holy land.
during the first crusade Richard had many victories. For example he won a significant victory over the forces of Saladin in the Battle of Arsuf . Another major victory for the Crusader army under Richard came at the Battle of Jaffa. unfortunately for Richard he could not bring back the holy land
on his back from the crusade his ship got wrecked and he got captured by Leopold v from Austria. Leopold eventually gave Richard to Henry VI the emperor of the holy roman empire where he was also taken captive.
Richard was held captive between 1993 and 1194 and in that time Henry VI was creating a ransom form in which Richards mother paid for realising her son
