I can't let you do this, Chiko! You might die out there!
Take me instead! Don't worry, Tai, i"ll check on your sister!
Chiko thought he was going to become a teacher, (or at least try) but he got taken away to join the army during his so called, "interveiw"... his mother warned him...
Chiko had to survive milatairy camp, along with all of its hardships. While being there, he tought many in camp how to read and write, even a sargent. And in return, Tai tought him how to take hits and survive.
The captain needed recrutes for a mission in their home town. Because there were no volunteers, they picked Tai. But Chiko wanted to ensure his saftey, so when they were about to take him, Chiko voulenteered and promised to make sure his sister was ok. This ending was not predictable and I love it, because you're not even sure it's a happily ever.
