The French Revolution was a horrible time for France. The government was falling apart and nothing was being done about it. The government did not care for their people, made the poor pay taxes, and the food was too expensive to buy. This led to tons of starving families.

The March on Versailles
Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
She was not even born in France!
She is using our taxes for herself!
Locked out of the General Estate meeting, the third estate met at a nearby tennis court to discuss the problems they are being faced with. Here they decided to create a new constitution.
The Reign of Terror
Let him have it! He stole from my shop!
A large group of women, and some men, went to the Palace of Versailles and demanded that the king and queen come back to Paris with them. The king and queen were captured and were forced to march back with them.
Why do the poor need to pay taxes!?
Come out here!
We need food!
The king and queen were under house arrest before they were executed. They were held for about 2 years. They were both executed for treason.
The reign of terror sent thousands of french citizens to death by guillotine. Whether the crime was stealing food or murder, the outcome would almost always be execution.
