"'Lawson & Carlson says a storm's coming. Big one. We're going to be off the wrecks for a couple days '" (Bacigalupi 14).
Bapi explains to his Light Crew that a storm is on it's way. He tells them to find as much quota as possible for the day. So, for the next few hours until the sun sets they scavenge for copper.
"Nailer shook his head. 'My dad!' ...'He won't wake up!'" (Bacigalupi 65).
That night, Nailer's father arrives at their hut drunk and high. He yells at Nailer and hit's him accross his face. Finally after thirty minutes his father finally falls asleep and Nailer does too a little later.
"Nailer woke to the roar of storm on bamboo walls... His father was just a shadow slumped beside him, mouth open, snoring" (Bacigalupi 61).
Nailer wasn't able to wake up his dad because he had to much to drink the night before. So, he ran over to Pima and Sadna. Sadna told them to get to high ground and she will help his father.
"They fled deeper into the jungle, scrambling through mud and stumbling over thick cypress roots. Torrents of water rushed down over them, filling the wood-cutting trails of the forest with their own muddy rivers" (Bacigalupi 66).
"They waited, shivering. Pima tugged him closer and they huddled together, sharing heat, waiting for nature's violence to pass" (Bacigalupi 67).
