  • Starr(right) hearing Mrs. Rooks(left) say that Starr used to be friends with Khalil burned her a little because she  will always have that memory engraved into her mind of her friend and didn't want to let all her feelings out so people would think shes unstable. 
  • Initial Dialogue  
  • "Baby, I heard what happened to Rosalie's grandboy. I'm so sorry. Y'all used to be friends, didn't you(Thomas 41)?
  • "Yes, ma'am"(Thomas 41).
  • Starr wants to stay strong to everyone and tries to hold back tears that are rushing to her eyes over the memory of her friend and people bringing it up. Starr wishes everything could just go back to normal and could be like it used to.
  • Propels the Action By…
  • "I'm so sorry Starr. You okay"(Thomas 43)?
  • After hearing people talk of Khalil all day Starr has a dream about her friends who she has seen die right in front of her. Starr dreams of trying to warn them but it being too. This causes Starr to wake from this nightmare afraid to go back to sleep.  
  • Outcome
  • Initial Dialogue 
  • Starr over hears her parents(left) and uncle(right) taking about different theories that they had heard about Khalil and how they are going to help her overcome this moment in her life. Starr wants to stop them in what they are saying because she doesn't believe what they are saying is true but can't get the word "no" out of her throat. 
  • "I didn't say it did, but it could explain Brian's decision if he felt threatened "(Thomas 52).
  • Propels the Action By…
  • The floors in Starr's house weren't silent enough leading her mother to realize that she had been listening to their conversation. Starr's uncle tells Starr that she may need to be questioned so that Khalil can be brought to justice. 
  • "I was just telling your parents how the detectives would like for you to come in and answer a few questions"(Thomas 55).
  • Starr is brought to the police station in order for them to question her to find out what happened the night of the murder and if she knew if any of the rumors going around of Khalil were true. 
  • Outcome 
  • "Do you know why Khalil came to the door, Starr"(Thomas 101)?
