  • We, the English people, do not want King James II or his son to make the whole country Roman Catholic.
  • The English Parliament unseated King James and made William and Mary King and Queen of England. The peaceful transfer of power became known as the Glorious Revolution. The new monarchs agreed to give the people more power.
  • The Declaration of Rights (The Bill of Rights)In 1689, William and Mary agreed to limit their own power by signing this document. It gave people in Parliament freedom of speech and more freedom in elections.Sound familiar?This event in England caused people in the Colonies to have a little more freedom, which inspired rebellions.It also inspired the U.S. Bill of Rights in 1791.
