  • Only 104 of the 144 colonists made it. They landed inland from Chesapeake bay up the James River.

  • Only 38 colonists ended up surviving. This led to John Smith taking control of the colony.

  • John Smith heads back to England. The colonists experience hunger and other issues since he left. A new governor named Lord de la Warr came in 1610 but fell ill and sailed back.

  • John Rolfe (a tobacco farmer in Jamestown) marries Pocahontas (the daughter of the chief of Powhatan). This will help the relationship between Jamestown and Powhatan.

  • John Rolfe sends tobacco to England and it becomes super popular. The Virginia Company of London offers anyone who travels to the colonies 50 acres a person.
