The family of 14 year old Cali Jane Shirer was not surviving well in the current situation. With all her brothers and sisters working, her parents as well they were barely getting by. As most family's were in Chicago.
All in her parent's room one night one of their good friends told them about the opportunities in Washington, and dropped the news they were going to leave.
Deciding to go along with them they took all their belongings and left for Washington on the Transcontinental Railroad.
To the store!
They decided to start a farm with land that was given to them, thus joining the agricultural Industry.
One day after a short day of hard labor all the girls went out to the store only intending to buy some supplies, but upon seeing some of the newest clothing they had to reconsider.
More people came to Washington on the railroad. More than half of them started to grow crops as the family's industry not only made it to the neighbors but to far off places.
