  • Prior to the Battle of the Timbers, American Expiditions in the Northwest has failed. The Battle of Wabash and resulted in a Native American Victory and the loss of many US troops.
  • Anthony Wayne (above) Washignton (right)
  • President Washington appointed General Anthony Wayne as the leader of the Legion of the US, which would be a new army. Wayne was a soldier during the Revolution who had helped with the Battle of Yorktown.
  • Wayne traveled to Georgia and made treaties with the Creek and Cherokee tribes there. Those tribes had sided with the British during the war, so they had to pay the US in land.
  • Georgian officals in the area had given Wayne land in appreciation for his efforts.
  • Depicted: Chief Little Turtle, Chief Blue Jacket, and Chief Buckongahelas
  • On August 20th, 1794, Wayne lead troops to victory against the Native leaders. This battle, Battle of the Fallen Timbers, took place near present day Toledo. 
  • They created the Treaty of Greenville, which gave over most of the Ohio territory along with Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan to the United States.
