  • Title
  • Jamestown Storyboard By: Karlee Strutz Peiod 03
  • Geographic
  • We do all the work in Jamestown and they blame us if its not done right.
  • Economic
  • I grew these myself!
  •
  • Political
  • We aren't ruled by King James anymore. We make our own decisions.
  • Jamestown was a swamp in Virginia. The watered down Chesapeake Bay area was not fit for growing crops. Near where they started building houses there was very fertile soil and this made it harder to build shelter in that area.
  • Social
  • Jamestown had very fertile soil, which meant tobacco products were easily grown there. Soon their popular cash crop became their biggest and most valuable export. They made so much money off of tobacco plants that they could survive off of growing them.
  • Why a surprise?
  • It is a surprise Jamestown was a success because of how many times they had to send more people there. The Jamestown settlers not only found that tobacco after the starving times but went through the starving times! More then half of the population died every time they sent more people over from the Old world. Mosquitoes and Hostile Indians are  what makes this a surprise as well. The Jamestown settlers went through tough times almost every minute they were trying to settle there. Although, one little product, a tobacco seed, changed everything.
  • Jamestown did not want to be ruled by King James because he didn't know what was actually happening in that town. The settlers started a Representative government and the house of Burgesses.
  • The Jamestown settlers went through a thing they called the starving times. This was before the tobacco product became their source of money. They resulted in Eating their horses and even shoes. The Powhatan Indians helped what was left of the colony and John Smith married the chiefs daughter Pocahontas.
  • I had to eat my shoes, there was nothing left.
