  • The Compromise
  • Another Vote
  • C'mon, Let's get this vote moving. Do we all agree to approve it?
  • To the President!
  • Bill 1641...You are a law now!
  • Congress is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. These members form a "conference committee" to work out a compromise bill that both chambers can accept.
  • The House of Representatives and the Senate vote on the compromise bill. Both chambers must pass the exact same version in order for the bill to move forward.
  • The bill moves to the desk of the President. There are three things that can happen at this point. The President can sign the bill and it becomes a law. Or The President can ignore the bill. If he or she ignores the bill and Congress is in session, then the bill automatically becomes a law after 10 days. If Congress is not in session, then it doesn't.
