Storyboard Description

This is my project for history. It is about a poor family who moved to Washington to live off the land and not have to worry about paying rent and dealing with city things. They have a successful life providing for themselves by growing their own food, catching their own fish, raising livestock, and hunting big and small game.

Storyboard Text

  • We are a family who grew up poor and we were tired of it. After the panic of 1846 and our dad got laid off from his job, we decided to move here to Washington. We wanted to live off the land and provide for ourselves
  • We were a poor family on the east coast. We were starving and desperate, so when we heard about the possibility of a new life in Washington, we couldn't pass it up.
  • We were too poor to travel to Washington by train, so we traveled by wagon. It was a dangerous mission, however, we learned how to catch fish, hunt, and other survival tactics. Things that have proven very useful in our new life.
  • We live off the land. We provide everything for ourselves and life is pretty good. We do not regret leaving our old life for this.
  • It was very difficult, and this took us a very long time to do, but we figured out how to grow cotton here in Washington. They called us crazy, but we did it. With the invention of the cotton gin, we made tons of money. We became one of the wealthiest families in the area.
  • With the rapid industrialization of Washington, we became a huge supplier of cotton and we made tons of money. We make a fortune every year. We make about 50,000 dollars every year!
