The Tennis Court Oath was a promise taken by the people of the Third Estate after they were fed up of not properly being treated by the first two Estates and King. They then established the National Assembly. This was important to the revolution, because it showed that the people wanted the power to be with them and not the King.

Women's March to Versailles, October 5th, 1789
France was really poor and this made the price of bread increase. A bunch of women, who are angry about the cost of bread, decided to walk to Versailles, where King Louis 16th and his wife, Marie Antoinette, lived. They demanded that they rule from Paris. This is important to the Revolution, because this gave the people, who did not like King Louis 16th, confidence that they had power over the King.

Flight to Varennes, June 21st, 1791
The King felt that he did not have a lot of power anymore, so he decided to go to Austria, get an army, come back to France and make himself powerful again. He was near French and Austrian border, but decided to spend the night in the French city of Varennes, where he got caught and was arrested. This was important to the French Revolution, as the people saw this act, by the King, as an act of betrayal against them.
War with Europe, Starting January, 1792
The Kingdoms surrounding France feared that their people, seeing what the French people did to their King and Queen, would also want to gain power. So they decided to attack France. This is important to the French Revolution, because if the French had lost, then the European power would have destroyed the revolution and made a King in-charge of France once again.
The people of France did not like that the King had betrayed them, so they decided to send the King to heaven. This was important to the French Revolution as now there was no more King. This meant that the people could now rule France themselves.

Napoleon Bonaparte, a very good military general, removed The Directory, which was a five person branch of government. He then created The Consulate and made himself First Consulate for life. This is important to the French Revolution, as Napoleon would expand the French border, spread revolutionary ideas to other places and do some good things like abolish slavery and respecting the rights of Jews and protestants as citizens.
