I hope Tonys dad can get me out of jail and not tell my mom.
But I have bigger things to worry about.
Wes went to jail and I didn't know about it.
Wes had been shoving White Boy in their game of football. White Boy didn't like it him so he punched Wes in the face. Wes went home and got a knife because he had remembered Tony saying to him if anything like that were to happen to "send a message".Wes went to jail because the cops had seen him walking toward White Boy holding a knife. In jail got one call, he chose to call Tony's dad to come pick him up out of jail. When Tony's dad dropped him off at home, his mom wasn't their, and Tony's dad honored Wes's request to not tell his mom what happend."It was years before Wes's mom found out her son had been arrested that day. By the time she did, she had bigger things to worry about." This is foreshadowing because eventually, later in the chapter, they go to live with Wes's grandparents. They do this for financial health, child care, and other reasons.
