I was very angry today. A visiting group of sevens came to the community and they did not obey the rules at all. I made my hands into a fist, like this!
Don't play it anymore!
Good Guys and Bad Guys Game
You ruined it!
What's wrong Jonas?
Lily was sharing to her parents her feelings that day. "She felt very angry this afternoon because the visiting group did not obey the rules, she was so mad that she made her hands into a fist." This scene is shared in the play and the book, and was not a good choice by the director of the play because Lily does not shows as much aggression towards the situation as she did in the book.
Jonas is terrified that he saw the plane and is waiting for orders. When he receives the orders, he obeys them instantly. In the book, they "stop what they were doing and wait, confused, for an explanation of the frightening event." and "Instantly, obediently, Jonas had dropped his bike". However, in the play, they were all calm, and there were no orders and they continued with their everyday lives.
In the book, Jonas says"Don't play it anymore". This shows that in the book Jonas is letting them know that he doesn't want them to play this game anymore. However, in the play Jonas was on the floor crying desperately wanting to stop playing the game. This is a difference and it is more effective in the play than it is in the book because the play expresses more emotion.
