The bill of rights is the first 10 amendments, which are basically changes to improve and better our country. Come inside, I will tell you about it.
Dad, what is the bill of rights, my teacher keep talking about it?
The bill of rights provides specific freedoms to people and limits how powerful the government is, for example, the 1st amendment allows us to say what we think even though it might not be right.
So there like laws... she told us about the 2nd one, the right to bear arms. She said that it gives people to own guns but only with a license.
The next 2 involve your own house; the 3rd protects the housing of soldiers, which means if we go to war in our country, soldiers would try and live with you but they can´t, the 4th is your protection from you or your house being searched without permission.
Soldiers try and live with you? I don´t want a scary soldier living with me!
The 5th, 9th, and 10th all deal with people´s rights; The 5th is your right to do or not do most things, like talk to people. The 9th just protects all of your rights, and the 10th gives powers that states and the people have.
Makes sense so far.
The 6th, 7th, and 8th all deal with the law and trials. The 6th is the right to a public and speedy trial which means for anything you do if you want to go to court, you can. The 7th is jut your rights during a trial and the 8th makes sure you aren´t punished too extremely.
Wow, I am glad I am a U.S. citizen, I feel a lot more safer knowing my rights.
Yea, and just like that you are the smartest kid in your class. Tomorrow go and quiz your teacher on what I just taught you, see if she knows which amendment you are talking about!
