  • Troops Sent To Ohio Valley
  • Federal Troops Defeated Twice
  • Anthony Wayne Takes Charge
  • Washington believed that claiming the Northwest Territory was critical to the growth of the new nation so he sent troops to the Ohio Valley. 
  • Little Turtle Replaced
  • The federal army was defeated by the Native Americans who were joined by the British. After their first defeat, they were sent back out and lost again.
  • Native Americans Retreat
  • Washington orders another troop west. Anthony Wayne is put as the new "head" 
  • Treaty Signed
  • Chiefs ignored Little Turtle and replaced him with a less able leader.
  • Native Americans expected British help so they gathered in Fort Miami. The Native Americans clashed with Wayne's troops. They retreated and were rejected by the British when they asked for help.
  • Twelve Native American tribes signed the Treaty of Greenville in 1795. They agreed to surrender most of Ohio and Indiana to the U.S. Government.
