Plants take in that carbon dioxide and use it for photosynthesis.
Carbon Dioxide is in the air as a result of combustion of fossil fuels.
Soil absorbs the carbon in the leaves that the plant shed.
It rains, and the water soaks up the carbon in the ground and then brings it back to the atmosphere when that water evaporates.
The carbon is absorbed by the water from the atmosphere when it rains.
Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the water and from the air (where the water evaporated). They then release oxygen.
Humans and animals inhale the oxygen and then exhale carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere, and the cycle starts again.
