After Texas was opened to settlement in the 1820's many changes occurred. Anglo Americans colonists received land grants such as towns and schools

The Mexican government took steps to better its authority (power) over Texas. The Mexican president issued a decree (order) to end slavery. Mexico also taxed goods from the United States.
The Texans held a large meeting (convention) at the convention a statement (resolution) was passed they wanted to make Texas an individual mexican state.
Santa Anna did not agree to allow Texas to be it's own state, but he did make some changes he increased the number of Texans in the lawmaking bod of the government (Legistature).
Many problems occurred between Texan and Mexican soldiers. In 1836 Santa Anna's army arrived in San Antonio. Texans wrote a declaration of independence from Mexico. The Mexican army attacked the Alamo.
