1 & 2 Samuel

Storyboard Text

  • After Eli and his two evil sons who were priests, die. And the Ark of the covenant is returned, Samuel leads the Israelites to a victory against the Philistines. Then Samuel starts leading the Israelites as God's prophet, priest, and judge.
  • Common men,let's finish this!
  • Israel wants a king like all the of nations. So God tells Samuel to anoint Saul as King of Israel. Saul starts out as a good king but he ends up failing to follow God, so he is rejected as king.
  • Through me, God has made you king over Israel.
  • Even when Saul is still king Samuel anoints David to replace Saul as king. David fights Goliath and wins. In the ANE when two nations were at war, they would send out their champions to fight each other. Thinking that each nations gods or god would possess the men, making it a fight against gods, and the one that won, was the stronger god. In the Old Testament when David fought Goliath God showed that he was more powerful because he made Israel win against a giant through a mere boy who only used a sling. This would be a pilot parallel. After the battle Saul became jealous because of how David became known a better warrior and leader than Saul. Because Saul is jealous, he tries to kill David many times, but fails over and over again.
  • Hahaha! This is who Israel has sent to fight me? A mere boy?
  • After David officially becomes king, he conquers Jerusalem and makes it the capital, also bringing the Ark of the Covenant there. After that David decides that he wants to build God a mighty house. But God didn't want David to build him one, he told David that one day his son would. Instead God makes a covenant with David (2 Samuel 7: 4-16) and all of his descendants. He promised to David a great name, a permanent home, and rest from enemies during his lifetime. He also promises him a family dynasty, a father/son relationship, and an everlasting throne after he dies.
  • So Samuel, can I build a mighty house for God?
  • I'm sorry David, but God doesn't want you to build him a house, he says that after you your son will do that. He also said that he will make a covenant to you and all you descendants.
  • David commits adultery against Bathsheba, and murders her husband Uriah to cover up his mistake. When David thinks he dodged the bullet, Samuel comes to him telling him that God knows what he did. So David repents and asks for forgiveness. God forgives him, but Davids family and Israel have to pay for his sin.
  • Yes David, I will forgive you. But I'm sure that you know that there will be consequences though.
  • Yes God, I understand.
  • God, I'm so so sorry. Will you ever forgive me?
  •
  • David thinks of all the times that God had delivered him, so he thanks God for it. Also one of his last things that he does as king, is that he orders that a sinful census is taken. God gets mad at him for doing that, so David repents again and is forgiven by God.
  • Yes King David!
  • I have thought back of all the times that God has delivered me. So now I thank the LORD almighty for all the times that you have delivered me. And now my people I order that a census be taken of everyone's sins.
  • Right away sir!
