  • Vasco da Gama 
  • Pedro Cabral
  • Bartolomeu Dias explored the southernmost part of Africa. King John sent Bartolomeu Dais to explore this area. This was important because it paved the way for future expedition to India and the rest of Asia. 
  • Christopher Columbus
  • Vasco da Gama set sail to Africa from Portugal. He then met a piolt from India who then helped him find his way. This was important because he found a sea route to Asia.
  • Amerigo Vespucci
  • Pedro Cabral set sail for India from Lisbon. Pedro Cabral was the commander, and this was important because he brought spices, porcelain, and other valuable cargo. This then made permanent forts so they could trade with Europe.
  • Ferdinand Magellan
  • Christopher Columbus explored Asia, and King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella agreed to reward and help him. This was important because he found the Europeans, Asians, and Africans.
  • Amerigo Vespucci went to the coast of South America. It was funded by Spain. This was important because he realized that South America was a separate continent, and not a part of Asia. 
  • Ferdinand Magellan set sail for Spain. No one funded him, but his crew, and this was important because his crew was the first people known to circumnavigate, or sail around, the world!
