We must attack while it is still dark on Christmas Eve.
They need to cross the river so they can get to safety, crossing the river will make it so the British could not get to them. It is very important that they do this because their army is already very small and they couldn't lose any more people.
GOING to THE HESSIANS
They needed boats to cross the river. They didn't have boats though, so they ended up stealing enough boats to get all of their troops across the river to safety from the British.
They find out that the Hessians will be helping the british fight against them. They are already out numbered so they plan a sneak attack on the Hessians on Christmas eve when it is dark and the Hessians will be celebrating or sleeping.
They leave at 5:30. It takes a long time to get to the Hessians because all of their troops have to cross the river, then they have to march carrying all of their weapons to the Hessians. They plan to attack when it is still dark outside but because it took them so long to get there it was light outside by the time they got there.
They get there and surround the Hessians while they are still asleep. Then they attack at 8:00. Some of the Hessians defend themselves but they were not successful. Eventually the Hessians surrender. Collected all loot and no one was hurt
Although all of the soldiers are tired from marching all night then attacking, George Washington will not let them sleep until they cross the river again and return to safety.
