When Elie exclaims, "And Moishe the Beadle, the poorest of the poor of sighet spoke to me for hours on end about the Kabbalah revelation" it shows how much he knows.(Wiesel 5)
  • Mrs. Schachters foreshadow
  • In this part of the chapter Elie is still living a normal life and when the army marches in, they stay at houses of residents until after the holiday is over. But as soon as its over they start making laws to limit the amount of freedom and rights a Jewish person has. This is proclaimed when Ellie states, " In less than three days German Army vehicles made their appearance on our streets" showing that they took very little time to invade there town.(Wiesel 9)

  • In the train Mrs schachters screams fire, fire when nothing is there but later on all the Jews see is fire ether ding to it or watching someone. Not only this but you can even go as far as her representing the truth and being silenced because of it. When she stated, "Jews listen to me, she cried I see fire I see flames huge flames"(Wiesel 25)
  • When Ellie is sent in line, him and his family are spilt up and as him and his father continue they believe they will end up in flames. When they are reaching the end of the road Ellie thinks about killing himself for a quicker death but is ensured seeing other Jews. It is stated , "He didn't answer he was weeping. His body was shaking. Everybody around us was weeping."(Wiesel 33)
  • When Elies father ask to go to the bathroom he gets slapped so hard he falls to the ground. When this happens Elie has conflict in his head about not standing up for his dad. You can see him conflict when he states, "What had happened to me? My father had just been struck in front of me; and I had not even blinked. (Wiesel 39)
