  • Sacrifices led to hatred of surrounding empires and the killing of many people that could have been used in the battle. Religion was a major part of the sacrifices and they believed the Spaniards were gods because of it. Diseases such as smallpox was brought from the Spain and ended up killing many Aztecs. Tactics played by the Spanish was different than the Aztecs. The Aztecs did learn to change their ways, and because of this they almost won.
  • Cortes came back to Mexico more prepared. There he split his army into 3 groups. 1 group would use cannons to clear the canal of war boats. the others would be used for battle. Native rivals of the Aztecs told Cortes some valuable things that allowed the Spaniards to win.
  • The Aztecs were fighting the Spanish with wooden clubs, bow and arrows, and spears. Their source of protection were shields and armour made of tightly quilted cotton. What they had was no match to the advance weapons of the Spaniards.
  •     Cortes was able to defeat Cuauhtemoc's resistance. Cuauhtemoc was the last ruler of the Aztec Empire and was Montezuma II's nephew. The battle between the Aztecs and the Spaniards wasn't the only factor of the fall of the Aztec Empire.
