A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gainestakes place in the 1940's town of Bayonne Louisiana with a teacher ny the name of Grant Wiggins who is a teacher in a plantation who is the narrator of the story.
A black man by the name of Jefferson is convicted of murder of the 1st degree and robbery and must face punishment of death by electrucution because of it.
The white jurer and the party who followed through with the verdict were speaking to Jefferson as though he was an iditot hog who didnt know how to function in this society when in relality Jefferson is facing a mix of discrimination and also having to face what he did was wrong.
Miss Emma, Jefferson's Godmother dissapointed by this word that Jefforson has been branded to goes to Grant to request that he teach Jefferson to be a man before his excecution
The story is very interesting in the case that not only is Jefferson the one with the problem that the story is based around, but there is also a personal struggle in how Grant is to teach this "hog" how to be a man before his death
This storyboard doesn't really do it justice, this book gives a really good amount of detail as to who the characters are and what their own personal struggles are and how they learn to cope with it. I highly reccomend that you read A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines.
