Storyboard Text

  • In the exposition, a boy (Maximilian, not shown at the time) is offered two crowns by the Virgin Mary. One crown will ensure that he will persevere in purity, while the other will ensure that he will die as a martyr. Maximilian decides to take both. This moment is a defining moment in Maximilian's life, and shows what he stands for, which is why it is important and is an excellent example of exposition.
  • Exposition
  • The conflict of the story is one of Maximilian vs the Nazis. Though the Nazis are not present in the story, they're looming threat drives the story and the rest of the characters. However, I feel that this does not take away from the story, as how they drive it makes them as present as any other character. Maximilian's eventual death, while a victory for the Nazis, is also symbolic of how sometimes, people must die for the greater good.
  • Conflict
  • In the rising action, Maximilian publishes an article encouraging opposition of the Nazis. Later, he gives an empowering speech doing the same. These moments are the most powerful in the game, showing the theme of good prevailing against evil. It also develops Maximilian's character, giving the direct result of his choice in the vision.
  • Rising Action
  • The only instance of falling action is a silent whisper of "Thank you." However, I find this acceptable, given that this being all that is said makes it hold it's own weight. It says that Maximilian's speech has reached the heart's of many, and that they will not give up. Additionally, it shows that Maximilian had a true impact on other people.
  • Falling Action
  • The resolution is a tragic one. Maximilian is imprisoned in a concentration camp and eventually volunteers to die in the place of another. However, Death's musings on how he doesn't understand his sacrifice encourages the reader to answer the question himself. I felt that this was an ending that brought closure to the story, which is why I chose it.
  • Resolution
  • The theme of my story is that without sacrifice, there is no hope for a greater future. This theme is present throughout the story, especially at the end with Death's musings and the ending quote from Maximilian. In addition, Maximilian sacrifices his life for a greater future. Ultimately, I felt that a story with a theme centered around the center belief of my Holocaust Hero was fitting.
