  • Guy Montag Loves to Burn
  • Captian Beatty Suspects Montag
  • Mildred Finds out about the books
  • In the Hearth and the Salamander, Montag said "It was a pleasure to burn" (Bradbury 1). This is important because it shows that he was a conformist in the beginning of the book.
  • The Society is Ignorant
  • Captain Beatty suspects Montag for stealing a book. Beatty sarcastically says "A natural error. Curiosity Alone" (Bradbury 65) to get Montag to give up the book.
  • Montag crosses the river
  • When Mildred saw that Montag had a book she kicked at the book. "Books aren't for people" (Bradbury 88). Mildred does not like the fact that Montag has books.
  • Montag Escapes
  • Mildred and her friends vote for the president based on how he looks, " President Noble, Handsome" (Bradbury 102). This shows that Mildred and her friends are ignorant about the society because they do not care whether the president is a good leader, but by their looks
  • Montag had to get away from the hound. "They were gone. The Hound was gone. Now there was only the cold river and Montag floating in a sudden peacefulness, away from the city and the lights and the chase, away from everything" (Bradbury 123). Montag was being chased and in order to get away, he had to cross the river.
  • Montag Escapes the bombing and regroups with other survivors they are trying to get to "when we get to the city" (Bradbury 158) to spread reading for future generations. Montag and his buddies are going to the city to educate people with books and reading.
