Storyboard Text

  • In 1519, Hernán Cortés sails to Mexico in hopes of conquering the rich Aztec empire.
  • Men, be ready for our new riches and fame!
  • YES SIR!
  • With the help of their Aztec interpreter, Malinche, they start to form alliances with enemies of the Aztec.
  • What are they saying?
  • These men will help you conquer the Aztec.
  • I see...
  • Their Aztec emperor, Montezuma, welcomes them peacefully. But then, tensions start to build...
  • I come in peace.
  • Likewise.
  • A battle breaks out which killed Montezuma in the process.
  • Get as much gold as you can!
  • AAAAH!
  • European diseases like smallpox spread at an exponential rate, killing millions. The Aztecs lacked immunity to these foreign diseases.
  • Not my son...
  • There's nothing I can do. I'm sorry.
  • The Aztecs finally surrendered Tenochtitlan on August 1521. The Spanish decided to name the place "New Spain", but later it would be called "Mexico".  They get rich from bullions (gold and silver bars) and other goods.
  • I'm rich!
  • Get down!
