  • Exposition
  • " I changed his name from William Armstrong to Doodle because he crawled backwards and acted like a doodle bug. "
  • Rising Action
  • ''I can't do it brother''. '' Don't hurt me.''
  • Rising Action
  • " Doodle's hands were clasped at his throat and I never seen him stand for so long. "
  • The Exposition: The story takes place in the America South. There is two main characters which is the narrator (James) and his brother (Doodle). When Doodle was born, he was born in a caul and he couldn't walk expect he can crawl.Doodle was always in a go-cart and James  had to hauled whenever they went somewhere outside.
  • Climax
  • "Brother, Brother, don't leave me!" " Don't leave me! "
  • The Rising Action: James takes Doodle to Old Woman Swamp to teach Doodle how to walk and run like a normal person because James feels embarrassed that his brother is 5 years old and can not walk or run. The protagonist is the narrator ( James) and the antagonist is pride
  • Falling Action
  • " I screamed above the pounding storm and threw my body to to the earth above his."
  • The Rising Action: Doodle surprised everybody that he can walk and every was really happy. Then one day Doodle heard a croaking noise in the backyard and went in the backyard to see what it was. There was a red bird in the tree and it trembled down the branches right by Doodle's feet and it was dead.
  • Resolution
  • " I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of the rain."
  • Doodle and James are running away from to the storm to get safety and James keeps on running  and leaves Doodle behind. 
  • The Resolution: Doodle got hit by a tree because  of the storm and James left him behind and Doodle started crying because James an banded him in the storm
  • The narrator (James) has grief over his dead brother Doodle because he left his brother behind when was running away from the storm.
