A man walks up to Hobie and tells him about sending Duke to war
Week 1 Duke Pg 1-62
I don't know about that. I don't want to send Duke away
That's some dog of yours. You should send him to the war. That's what I am doing
The man is still encouraging Hobie to send Duke to the Army
Sir, I don't want to send my dog away please leave. NOW!
You really should send Duke away he would be a big help.
Hobie realizes that maybe he should have not been rude. Maybe he should help.
I really should have helped there are people out there dying. Now I feel bad.
After Duke saved Hobie from getting beat up from the bully, the man said that Duke would be a good fit if he sent Duke to help in the war. Hobie thought about helping because everyone around him is helping out and he really isn't doing the best he can. Giving Duke away would be a scary thing. Hobie is very scared about the things that could happen.
The man kept trying to get Hobie to send Duke to the Army. Hobie does not want to. Hobie gets mad because the man kept trying to get Hobie to do that.
I chose this scene because it shows that Hobie cares about other people and is beginning to come of age. He realizes that there are bigger things out there and might sacrifice something he loves to make a difference in the world. If he did not feel bad then the story would change because Hobie would not have a chance to help people out and "grow up"
