Rainsford and Whitney are debating whether or not animals have feelings.
Rainsford looks out into the ocean to try and find out where the gunshot noise came from, drops his cigarette and when he reaches for it, he falls off of the boat into the ocean.
Rainsford reaches Ship trap Island and meets General Zaroff as he takes refuge in his house.
General Zaroff tells Rainsford about his sport of hunting humans and offers him to join him on his next prey. Rainsford denies his request and the General wasn't happy about that and decides to hunt Rainsford. Rainsford is thinking he needs to escape from General Zaroff, and fast!
He heard the hounds. Then he leaped far out into the sea.... General Zaroff believed he had drowned.
General Zaroff says to the hounds "better luck next time," Then he switched the light. A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there. General Zaroff was surprised as he exclaimed "Rainsford!"
