  • Doctor, what is atropine sulfate? What is its use?
  • So I will be prescribing atropine sulfate drops toprevent your myopiafrom worsening.
  • That is very interesting! What other uses does it have?
  • Atropine is a medication that can stop the eye fromelongating. It is also used to paralyse lens muscles and dilate the pupil. It can cure amblyopia or 'lazy eye'.
  • Amazing!
  • As an injection, atropine is used to treat bradycardia where the heart beats slower than normal. It is also an antidote for certain chemical weapon poisonings.
  • Wow... but wait a minute. You keep talking about atropine but you prescribed atropine sulfate to me.What's the difference?
  • On top of that, atropine can inhibit saliva, sweat and mucus secretions as it acts on synapses in the nervous system. As such, it can treat hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.
  • That is wonderful!
  • This is because amines like atropine are more soluble when they are converted to salts, in this case atropine sulfate, so they can dissolve better in human fluids.
  • Thank you Doctor, I have definitely learnt a lot!
  • I hope you have had a great time gaining knowledge on this wonderful chemical!
