  • Siddhartha Gautama a Hindu prince of Nepal was born in 563 B.C. Siddhartha's father meets with s fortune teller who predicts Siddhartha will be a king or a religious leader. Of course his dad wants Siddhartha to be a king.
  • Life is just an endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth
  • Siddhartha grew up in a life of luxury without experiencing pain or sadness. His father protected him from everything unpleasant so Siddhartha never saw beggars or sick people. When he was a man, he got married and had a son and he had everything a person could want.
  • I will not leave this spot until I reach enlightment
  • When Siddhartha was 29, he rode out of the palace without his guards and saw a man who died. He was so surprised because he never saw so much suffering. After, he saw a holy man. That holy man had nothing, but he was happy and that inspired him to trade in all his clothes and live a simple life.
  • With only a true understanding that you can stop the cycle of birth, death and rebirth
  • Siddhartha studied with Hindu gurus and they taught him that life was an endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. He joined a band of religious astics  which means that he was not allowed and physical comfort and so he ate less and less. After five years, Siddhartha fainted and when he woke up, a milkmaid offered him food. After he ate it, the astics were so mad they abandoned him.
  • Siddhartha sat under a fig tree to meditate and he would not leave until the truth has been relized. He meditated their for 49 days. During his days, Mara tempted him with wealth and when that did not work, he attacked him with rocks. After all that time meditating, he understood the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, which means he reached enlightment.
  • For the next 45 years, he traveled across India. He traveled across India to teach the message of truth and hope. His purpose was to awaken the world to the true nature of life and he taught his people that only with a true understanding that they could understand the endless cycle.
