Mt Vesuvius is a volcano that is near the city of Pompeii. It hasn't erupted in a while. But one day, that all changed.
In the year of 79 A.D, in the city of Pompeii, there were people living there. Everyone was living a happy live with all of their friends and family.
The day after, smoke was rising out of the volcano. Soon after, Lava was splashing out of Mt Vesuvius and it was creating havoc.
This smoke lasted for hours until it spread to the nearest city, Pompeii. Smoke was being inhaled and fire was created from the hot climate which was coming from the lava. The lava was spreading too fast so people could not escape.
After a long and frightening 25 hours, Mt Vesuvius stopped erupting. Many people that lived in Pompeii died. Many people couldn't escape in time or inhaled too much smoke.
Till this day, many people still live in Pompeii for the minerals of the molten rock. Scientist believe that the volcano is still active but is not expected to erupt any time soon.
