In 1830-1850 the us government move native american tribes to reservation areas. Reservation areas of land that were designated for native american tribes. They moved the native american nations from their homes in the east to the reservation areas in the west so white americans could have more land.
With westward expansion of the railroads, farms and mines white americans moved to reservation areas.
what are they doing!
White americans demanded more land in the west, the government had to redraw the boundaries for the native americans.
Fine we will redraw the reservation boundaries
we demand more land in the west
They gave the whites the good land and gave the native americans the bad land, that spread poverty through native american nations.
this land is horrible there is no good hunting we all are going to starve to death
The goal of white americans was to make native americans more like white american, this was called assimilation. some people thought that assimilation would help native americans, other wanted a way to get rid of native americans.
boarding schools were one way that people made native americans like white americans for example they would cut their hair and make them dress in traditional white american cloths, also if they practicesd their native ways of spoke their native language they would get punished harshly. bording schools were not in good condition the food was bad as a result diseases spread through bording schools.
