"We had passed through long walls of piled skeletons... into the the most recesses of the catacombs" (Poe 866).
"Nemo me impune lacessit" (Poe 868).
"The thousand injuries of Fortunato I bore as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge" (Poe 866).
The Setting in Montresor's catacombs during the season of the carnival. Point of view is 1st person because Montresor is narrating the story.
"A moment more and I had fettered him to the granite" (Poe 869).
This is foreshadowing because the reader know that Fortunato has insulted him and Montresor has vowed revenge which he has not yet carried out. This is an example of dramatic irony.
"I drink," he said, "to the buried that response around us" (Poe 868).
"And I to your long life" (Poe 868).
Montresor is saying how Fortunato insulated him and he will get his revenge. This is man vs man conflict.
Motresor has finally took his revenge on Fortunato.
This is verbal irony because even though Montrsor is toasting to Fortunatos long life he secretly want him dead.
People will get what they deserve.
"A human foot d'or, in a field azure: the foot crushes a serpent rampant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel" (Poe 868).
