  • This isn't fair! You didn't give him enough time!
  • "Shut up, Tessie!"
  • "Be a good sport Tessie"
  • This is the part of "The Lottery" where the winner of the villages lottery is revealed. It begins when Mrs.Hutchinson arrives to the town square late and finds her family in the crowd.
  • As the lottery begins, Mr. Summers begins to read a list of names of people who have been selected to take a slip of paper from the box. Along with her husband, Mrs.Hutchinson is also selected to grab a slip out the box.
  • Mrs.Hutchinson is very upset that she was selected and she claims it's unfair and that the man before her was not given enough time. Other villagers begin to grow annoyed with Tessie and basically tell her to be quiet.
  • “It isn’t fair, it isn’t right,”
  • Mrs. Hutchinson and the rest of her family step forward and start to take slips of paper out of the box.
  • After everyone opens their paper slips, Tessie hesitantly opens hers. When she opens her slip of paper, it's revealed that she choose the paper with the black mark. Because of this, she is named the winner of the lottery.
  • Now in the middle of all the villagers, Mrs.Hucthinson's last words were "it isn't fair, it isn't right" before stones began to hit her all over her body.
