  • O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
  • Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?
  • By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am. My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself, Because it is an enemy to thee.
  • What man art thou that, thus bescreened in night, So stumblest on my counsel?
  • My life were better ended by their hate than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.
  • If they do see thee, they will murder thee.
  • Romeo sees Juliet on her balcony outside her room. She expresses her love for Romeo without knowing that he is below her balcony and can hear her. Juliet asks why she must love a man who is a Montague, whom she is supposed to hate.
  • Romeo reveals that he was listening to Juliet and she questions who was and why he was listening to her private thoughts. He reveals that he is Romeo and she asks how he got there.
  • By-and-by I come.- To cease thy suit and leave me to my grief. Tomorrow will I send. A thousand times good night!
  • Romeo tells her that love helped him climb the walls surrounding the orchard. Juliet says if she knew that he was there, she wouldn't have been so open about her feelings. She also tells him that if any one of her family were to find him there he would surely be killed.
  • Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow.
  • Juliet says that he may think that she's fallen too easily but she wants to be true to her feelings. She asks if Romeo loves her and he swears that he does, so she promises to send a messenger to him the next day to plan their wedding.
  • While promising to marry each other, Juliet's nurse calls from her within her room. Juliet runs in, bids her goodnight , and runs back outside to Romeo.
  • They express the sadness that fills them to leave but they know they must and they bid each other goodnight.
