  • Nothing but trouble in that, pack of young fools.
  • They do say that over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery.
  • The villagers in a town assemble for a lottery in the morning of June 27. The children play and gather stones in a pile.
  • You didn't give him time enough to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn't fair!
  • Mrs. Tessie Hutchinson arrives late to the lottery after she was busy and forgot what special day it was.
  • Old Man Warner talks with Mr. Adams and says the lottery can't be given up, otherwise society will start regressing.
  • It isn't fair, it isn't right!...
  • Bill Hutchinson gets the ticket and Mrs. Hutchinson says that it wasn't fair because he didn't have enough time to choose carefully.
  • Hutchinson's family members draw their papers. Mrs. Hutchinson chooses a paper randomly and lands the one with a black dot on it.
