  • Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, Lincolnshire on January 4, 1643.
  • At age 17, Newton was sent to a farm by his mother, but the school headmaster returned him to school.
  • Why am I on a... farm?
  • After excelling at school, Newton joined Trinity College in the University of Cambridge, where he studied law.
  • In 1665, Trinity College shut down due to the Great Plague, so Newton went home to study.

  • While studying, Newton saw an apple fall from a tree, which made him curious about the force that pulled everything to the ground.
  • In 1687 Newton published the Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, also known as the Principia. It contains the laws of gravity, the laws of motion and the laws of planetary motion, based on Kepler's discovery.

  • On 20 March, 1727, Isaac Newton died in London, possibly due to mercury poisoning from experiments. He became the first scientist to be buried at Westminster Abbey.
