Siddhartha Gautama was born as a prince. A fortune teller determined two possible fates for him which was to be a mighty king or religious leader. The king desired for his son to be a king.
I've hardly eaten!
Because the king wanted to protect his son, he decided not to let him see any poor or suffering people. The king thought that if his son saw poor or suffering people, he would feel badly for them and end up being more like a religious leader rather than a king.
I've discovered the truth.
Siddhartha decided to go out without guards one day. He discovered poor and suffering people for the first time. He became aware of the real world and he felt badly.
This is the truth about life and death.
Siddhartha Gautama wanted to discover the truth about life and death. He tried being an Ascetic, and partcipate in self-denial, but it was not a healthy lifestyle. He desired to find the true answers for himself.
Siddhartha Gautama meditated for forty-nine days. He ignored desire and was visited by Mara: the God of desire and death who failed to distract him, so she put in place rains and showers of rocks. He finally saw his past lives and discovered the truth about life, death, and suffering.
Buddha was freed from the cycle of rebirth and suffering. He went back to earth to teach others of what he had learned. His purpose was to inform people about the truth of life and death.
